Mission Monarch Expert (MMx) Training Program – Butterfly and Habitat Surveys
Summer 2024 Field Season
Intent of Funding: support Indigenous participation in Monarch and habitat surveys that will contribute to international research and education effort aimed at saving the migratory populations of an endangered species.
Requirement of Funding: site selection must be within the summer breeding area of the Monarch butterfly in Canada (Appendix A). Funding will range between $7,500 - $22,500 per request and will be considered on a case-by-case basis as the survey protocol is highly adaptable to support interests and levels of involvement (Q1 – Q5 below).
Applications: Interested participants may apply anytime between March 25th – April 12th, 2024. Applications will be reviewed the week of April 15th, 2024 and candidates/communities will be notified of whether or not their application has been selected by April 22nd, 2024.
Training: Applicants should be prepared to take the one day training on May 02nd, 2024 and May 14th, 15th OR 17th, 2024 (TBD depending on level of interest). Training and survey materials will be covered through SARACCA funding and made available in both English and French languages.
